Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 14, 2026
This policy explains how personal information is handled in connection with WeirdThings, an independent website based in Singapore. You can read our public articles without creating an account.
Data protection contact: Contact our Data Protection Officer at contact@weird-things.net. Please include “Privacy” in your subject line for questions, complaints, or requests about your information.
1. Information you send us
If you email us, we receive your email address, message, and any name, attachments, or other information you choose to include. We use this information to respond and handle your inquiry, correction, copyright concern, or privacy request. Please avoid sending unnecessary sensitive information.
2. Hosting and technical information
We use Vercel to host and deliver this website. Technical information processed to deliver and secure the service may include your IP address, approximate location derived from it, requested page, browser or device information, and request timing or error data. This information supports content delivery, security, and troubleshooting.
We have not enabled website audience-analytics tools. Hosting and security services still process technical information. For Vercel’s own data practices, see its Privacy Notice.
3. Cookies and tracking
We do not currently use advertising or audience-analytics cookies, or embed tools for tracking visitors across websites. Technical features used for website delivery or security are separate from optional tracking.
Our current site does not change its technical request handling in response to the legacy browser “Do Not Track” signal. This does not limit any rights or opt-out signals that must be honored under applicable law.
Your browser may let you restrict or delete cookies and other stored site data. Reading this policy or continuing to browse is not consent to optional tracking. Before introducing technology that requires prior consent, we will provide the necessary choices and a way to change them.
4. Planned advertising: Google AdSense
We plan to use Google AdSense to support the website. Advertising is not currently enabled on WeirdThings.
Once enabled, third-party providers, including Google, may use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this or other websites. Google’s advertising cookies allow Google and its partners to personalize ads, subject to applicable consent requirements.
You can manage personalized advertising through Google’s Ads Settings. Learn how Google uses information from partner websites.
Before enabling advertising, we will update this policy to describe the actual providers, link to their privacy information and available opt-outs, and provide the consent or other privacy choices required for the services and regions involved.
5. Sharing and international processing
Our hosting, security, and email service providers handle information needed to provide those services. We may also disclose information where legally required, or where lawfully necessary to address abuse, protect security, or deal with legal claims.
These services may process information outside Singapore, including in the United States and other countries where they operate. For transfers we make or arrange, we apply the safeguards required by applicable data protection law.
6. Retention and security
We keep correspondence for as long as reasonably needed to handle the request, necessary follow-up, and relevant disputes or legal requirements. Technical records are retained according to service settings and the needs of delivery, security, troubleshooting, and applicable law.
We limit access to personal information, use reasonable security measures, and delete or de-identify information when it is no longer needed for a business or legal purpose. No internet service can guarantee absolute security.
7. Your requests and choices
You may contact us to request access to or correction of information we hold about you, ask about its use or disclosure, or withdraw consent where processing relies on consent. Depending on applicable law, you may have additional rights, including deletion or other processing choices.
Send requests to contact@weird-things.net. We may request limited information to verify and handle your request. We will respond within the legally required period and explain any relevant limitation or effect of withdrawing consent.
You can also raise a concern with Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Commission or another authority where applicable.
8. External platforms
Links to Substack, Telegram, and other websites take you to external services with their own privacy practices. Review their notices before providing information there. This policy covers the WeirdThings website and does not replace those services’ notices.
9. Policy changes
We will update this page when our practices change and show the revision date above. For material changes, we will provide a prominent website notice or another appropriate notification. Where additional notice or consent is required, we will provide it before the relevant new processing begins.
